Children and Youth Gala

Youth gave back to youth Saturday night at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel’s David Foster Theatre. The occasion was South Island Centre’s fifth annual fundraising gala. Folks turned out in their finery to celebrate the charity’s work with children and youth in Victoria. Local talent Tuesday’s Roadkill, a band of teenagers playing for free, gave a great performance, and Jon Williams, radio host from the Midday Zone, on The Zone 91.3, enthralled the 100-strong guests with a gritty and honest keynote, highlighting his own troubles with mental health. “GALA 2019 was a wonderful event,” said organizer Greg Cummings, “a success for children and youth counselling.” The charity raised over $15,000 in support of its tireless work providing affordable, professional mental health counselling to all.

Victoria News wrote an insightful piece to help promote the event.
