Community Based Conservation

In the face of evacuations of expatriate staff from Rwanda during the Genocide, and the associated cost, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund sought a different approach to gorilla conservation, a methodology that would be less dependent on foreign intervention and more grassroots representative. After a community survey to determine the reasons people were encroaching the gorilla habitat, we came up with a roster of low-cost, community-based projects that addressed these threats.
